The role
Canonical is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead its Distributed Systems Testing team, which builds the quality engineering platform used to deploy and validate Canonical's cloud products. The role is globally remote, leading a team in one major time zone such as EMEA or the Americas.
What you will do
- Lead, coach and develop software and quality engineers from graduate to senior level
- Set expectations, strengthen engineering practices and keep delivery on schedule
- Shape technical strategy, architecture and roadmap with senior engineers
- Guide automated testing infrastructure for reliability and interoperability of distributed systems
- Improve CI pipelines, test tools and reporting across bare-metal, private and public cloud
- Contribute through design and code reviews and hands-on engineering where useful
What they ask for
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring software engineers
- Professional software engineering experience in Python or Go
- Expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure or quality engineering
- Strong knowledge of software testing strategies and automation
- Experience with Linux, Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Experience in agile development environments
- Professional written and spoken English
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events of up to two weeks
