The role
GitLab is hiring a Principal Site Reliability Engineer for Platform Engineering on GitLab Dedicated, its single-tenant managed SaaS. The role sets technical direction as the fleet of isolated customer environments grows, covering resilience, failover, tenant orchestration and change management.
What you will do
- Set technical direction and architecture for GitLab Dedicated as the fleet of single-tenant environments grows
- Lead platform changes in resilience, failover, tenant orchestration, change management, self-service tooling and integrations
- Align Dedicated with GitLab's Cells strategy while keeping its security, isolation and compliance
- Strengthen service ownership and operational maturity on engineering teams
- Find and address systemic reliability and scalability risks using production signals and incident patterns
- Build reusable platform patterns and automation that reduce operational toil
What they ask for
- Deep expertise in site reliability, platform, infrastructure or backend engineering, designing and operating large production systems
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, automation, observability and infrastructure as code
- Production or tooling code in Go, Ruby, Python or similar
- Strong distributed systems and systems-design skills
- Track record of technical leadership across several teams
- Experience leading platform transformations such as modernization, modularization or scaling through growth
- Experience improving how teams own and operate production systems
