The role
Grafana Labs is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer for a new team building an AI-native data context system for agents. You will build the first production services for ingestion, storage and retrieval. Open to candidates in the US or Canada, excluding Quebec.
What you will do
- Build backend services for context ingestion, indexing, retrieval and API access
- Design a multi-tenant SaaS foundation with tenant isolation, quotas, usage tracking and audit logs
- Build APIs that let AI agents, MCP tools and CLIs retrieve context with provenance and confidence signals
- Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces and alerts and operate what you build
- Help shape architecture, storage choices, API contracts and deployment patterns
What they ask for
- Staff-level experience building production-grade software systems
- Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering and building applications on them
- Practical familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks
- Comfortable with ambiguity and defining scope when it is loose
- Able to prototype quickly, gather feedback and iterate
- Resident in the US or Canada (not Quebec)
