The role
Thunderbird, the open-source email company, is hiring a Staff Product Engineer for Thunderbolt, its open-source AI client for organizations that want control over their data and infrastructure. You will build features and customizations and support enterprise customers who adopt it through partners.
What you will do
- Build and ship full-stack features, integrations and customer-specific customizations in the Thunderbolt codebase
- Work directly with technical partners and enterprise customers to turn their requirements into plans and working software
- Support pilots, proofs of concept and early production deployments, including partner-hosted setups
- Diagnose and fix complex issues across application, infrastructure, identity, integration and data-access layers
- Maintain customer customizations as the core product evolves and push common requests into general features
- Write documentation, deployment guidance and runbooks so partners can handle routine issues themselves
What they ask for
- 10+ years of professional software engineering, including Staff-level scope and shipping production applications
- Strong full-stack skills: modern TypeScript or JavaScript, component-based front-end frameworks, back-end services and APIs
- Experience working directly with customers, partners or integrators while also writing the code
- Experience building or supporting AI applications such as LLM platforms, RAG, agents or data connectors
- Understanding of enterprise deployment concerns: identity providers, access control, self-hosted infrastructure, reliability
- Comfort working independently in an early-stage product
