The role
Thunderbird is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its Web Application Services team, which builds web products that extend Thunderbird beyond email. This is a Staff-level individual contributor role with technical ownership and influence across the Services products.
What you will do
- Lead the technical architecture of new Services products such as an appointment calendar and secure file storage
- Write code, build prototypes and contribute across the development lifecycle
- Set software patterns and evaluate technology choices across Services products
- Build analytics and infrastructure that use user data to inform decisions
- Take on ambiguous, broad problems, including growing Services users and subscribers
- Mentor engineers through code review, documentation and technical discussion
What they ask for
- 10+ years of web software development, including designing scalable systems and launching complex web projects
- Expert-level JavaScript and at least one more language such as Python, Rust, Go or C++
- Experience with front-end frameworks, full-stack or API development
- Experience as a technical lead mentoring other engineers
- Experience collaborating remotely with product, QA and design
- Excellent written and spoken English for an international team
- Willingness to travel periodically, including internationally
