The role
The company is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its Database Excellence group, building data growth controls, retention frameworks and database tooling for the company.com and self-managed instances. Works with PostgreSQL and Ruby on Rails in a fully remote team.
What you will do
- Build data retention and lifecycle management frameworks, including policy enforcement and bulk removal tooling
- Add guardrails such as static analysis and schema-change checks that catch unsustainable data growth
- Build tooling like SQL traffic replay and background operations frameworks
- Review database-related changes from engineers and community contributors
- Document database best practices and data architecture guidance
What they ask for
- Professional experience with PostgreSQL in large production environments, including failover, zero-downtime migrations and large datasets
- Proficiency with Ruby on Rails or another Ruby framework
- Ability to reason about software design, algorithms and performance trade-offs
- Strong written communication in an all-remote, async team
- Self-directed work style
- Willing to join the tier 2 database on-call rotation in your time zone
