The role
MZLA, the nonprofit-owned company behind the open-source Thunderbird email app, is hiring a Senior iOS Engineer to develop and evolve the Thunderbird iOS app. Full-time and fully remote, with a distributed team and open-source contributors.
What you will do
- Build and refine Thunderbird's mobile products and platform architecture
- Improve scalability, performance, reliability and user experience
- Keep up unit, integration and automated testing and review code
- Resolve complex issues involving performance, security and cross-platform integration
- Monitor app health and document technical decisions
- Own projects from planning through delivery, meeting accessibility, security and privacy standards
What they ask for
- 7+ years of professional software development, including 2+ years as a senior engineer
- 3+ years of mobile app development
- Strong Swift, SwiftUI and iOS frameworks
- Deep knowledge of iOS architecture and performance optimization
- Knowledge of mobile security: encryption, secure storage, app signing
- Experience with email protocols such as IMAP, POP, RSS or Matrix; CalDAV or CardDAV familiarity
- Strong async written communication in a distributed team
