The role
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer for the Growth Foundations team in Consumer & Business. The team runs the systems behind notifications, incentives, referrals, user targeting and ML ranking across Coinbase surfaces. Coinbase is remote-first with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Design and deliver distributed backend services with high throughput, low latency and high reliability
- Architect service-oriented systems across backend, data and ML layers
- Turn product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps with engineers, designers and product managers
- Invest in developer tooling and shared platform capabilities that speed up other teams
- Write well-tested, secure production code
- Build and iterate on growth features that improve acquisition and retention
What they ask for
- 5+ years of backend engineering building and maintaining production distributed services
- Server-side expertise in performance, security, scalability and containers (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker)
- Experience designing and running growth experiments or A/B tests
- Experience with databases, caches and storage such as Postgres, MongoDB or DynamoDB in high-throughput systems
- Record of cross-functional delivery from scoping to production monitoring
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight
