The role
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer for its Risk Engineering team in Consumer & Business. You will build systems that detect fraud and manage credit and market risk in real time. Coinbase is remote-first.
What you will do
- Lead design and delivery of risk platform features from architecture to monitoring
- Drive architecture for risk detection and mitigation, balancing fraud prevention and user experience
- Work with Data Science, ML, Risk Analysts, Product and Compliance on decisioning engines and fraud detection
- Build AI-native risk systems using agents to automate detection and response
- Mentor engineers, review code and write design documents
- Lead incident response and post-mortems and address technical debt
What they ask for
- 5+ years of backend engineering delivering complex systems in production
- Strong Go, Ruby, Python or Java with distributed systems, microservices and event-driven design
- Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
- Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans
- Experience leading end-to-end projects and mentoring engineers
- Experience leading incident response and post-mortems
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight
