The role
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Coinbase Advisor team, which builds an AI advisor inside the Coinbase app that discusses portfolios and executes trades. The role is mostly backend on a full-stack team. Coinbase is remote-first with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Own the backend services behind Coinbase Advisor and Strategies, from design through launch and operation
- Build integrations with Coinbase trading APIs so recommendations and strategies lead to correct, auditable execution
- Develop the agent harness: tool calling, orchestration, persistent state and recovery from failed actions
- Shape agent behavior through prompt engineering, evals and conversation analysis with the registered investment adviser
- Improve reliability, latency, observability and safeguards such as retry behavior and duplicate-action protection
- Work with frontend, product, design, trading infrastructure and legal teams on customer-facing features
What they ask for
- 5+ years of professional software engineering, with deep backend experience running production services
- Strong API design, distributed systems, data modeling, testing and production debugging skills
- Proficiency in Go, or a demonstrated ability to learn it quickly
- Experience building production LLM or agentic systems, including tool calling, orchestration or evaluation
- Ability to take ambiguous projects from zero to production with little oversight
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight
