The role
Coinbase is hiring a senior backend engineer for its Payments team in the Platform organization. The team builds the APIs and systems behind fiat on- and off-ramps and is turning them into a self-serve platform for other Coinbase teams. The company is remote-first with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Design and build fault-tolerant backend services in Go for payment processing
- Own payment features end to end, from design through deployment and monitoring
- Build platform primitives and self-serve APIs so other teams can add payment methods and rails
- Translate product and business needs into quarterly technical plans
- Improve reliability, observability and performance of payment services
- Contribute through code reviews and design discussions
What they ask for
- 5+ years of backend engineering with production services in a service-oriented or microservices setup
- Proficiency in Go or a similar backend language
- Experience designing scalable, low-latency APIs and distributed systems
- Track record of owning features from design to production support
- Experience with financial systems, payments or high-volume transactional systems needing precision and auditability
- Attend quarterly in-person working sessions
