The role
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer for its Retail DEX team, which runs the data and trading systems behind onchain trading in the main Coinbase app. The work covers blockchain integrations, smart contracts and real-time data pipelines.
What you will do
- Integrate new blockchains, decentralized exchanges and launchpads into the Coinbase app
- Design and implement first-party smart contracts for onchain trading, such as DEX aggregation and advanced order types
- Scale real-time data pipelines handling 100K+ messages per second with millisecond latency
- Optimize the trading stack for fast execution, good fills and wide asset coverage
- Build agentic-first development patterns and self-improving tooling to speed up the team
What they ask for
- 5+ years of backend software engineering, building and operating production data systems or pipelines
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, ClickHouse, StarRocks, Temporal and Redis
- Experience designing and integrating with smart contracts on EVM chains (Ethereum, Base) or Solana
- Demonstrated ability to build and improve agentic-first code repositories in production
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight
