The role
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer for its Data Platform team to set technical strategy for data ingestion, transformation, warehousing, streaming and serving. The role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering; Coinbase is remote-first with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Own the technical strategy and architecture of the Data Platform across ingestion, warehousing, streaming and serving.
- Design data infrastructure that supports ML training, feature stores, real-time inference and multi-agent AI workloads.
- Drive the move to near-real-time data for fraud detection, financial reporting and analytics.
- Build alignment with leadership and partners across product, ML, privacy, security and compliance on priorities.
- Represent Data Platform in OKR planning and architecture reviews, and help develop senior engineers.
What they ask for
- 12+ years building and operating large-scale distributed data infrastructure, including streaming, data lakes and batch and real-time processing.
- Record of owning technical strategy for a whole data domain across multiple teams.
- Experience moving an organization from managed-service dependence to engineering-built infrastructure.
- Experience designing data systems for ML pipelines, feature stores or AI agent workloads, with CDC, Kafka, Databricks or Snowflake.
- Ability to reason about performance, reliability, cost, security and privacy at each data layer.
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.
