The role
Coinbase is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer to be technical lead for Identity & Access Management within its Platform group. The role unifies human, AI agent and service identity across 700+ internal systems. Remote-first with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Own the multi-year IAM technical strategy and architecture covering workforce, AI agent and workload identity
- Set standards and integration contracts across multiple teams you do not manage
- Plan adoption, migration paths and build-vs-buy decisions for 700+ systems
- Turn audit and regulatory requirements (UAR, SOX, SOC 2) into automated controls
- Build the data model and tooling that show who has access to what, and why
- Mentor staff and senior engineers

- 12+ years of software engineering, as the most senior technical leader on a multi-team platform
- Deep IAM expertise in more than one domain, with service or workload identity experience
- Production Go and distributed systems design on AWS
- Fluency in OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM and workload identity patterns
- Proven influence without authority at senior levels
- Clear written and verbal communication for executive audiences
