The role
Coinbase is hiring a Staff Data Engineer for Market Data on its Institutional Markets team, to build the low-latency systems that capture, normalize and distribute real-time market data for its unified trading platform. Coinbase is remote-first, with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Build and operate market data components: feed handlers, normalization, distribution and venue connectivity
- Design low-latency, high-throughput real-time market data systems used by trading systems
- Improve reliability and performance through observability, on-call and incident response
- Write well-tested code and raise quality on a lean team
- Work with engineers, product and other stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities
What they ask for
- 5+ years of backend engineering, including production low-latency systems
- Hands-on experience with market data systems such as feed handlers, normalization or distribution
- Proficiency in low-latency Java or C++ and messaging such as Aeron or SBE
- Familiarity with exchange connectivity and protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast)
- Delivered features end to end and operated them in production
- Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight
