The role
Coinbase is hiring a Staff Software Engineer in its Customer Experience engineering group, which builds secure internal platforms for about 7,000 support, compliance, legal and investigations specialists. You would act as technical anchor across 8 squads. Remote-first with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Own the AI maturity and developer-experience roadmap for the group, prototyping on Coinbase's AI platform
- Lead workstreams improving reliability, observability, change-failure rate and operational readiness
- Set build-versus-buy strategy for developer-experience and AI tooling
- Provide staff-level architecture help to squads facing complex problems
- Build reliable, secure backend services with SLO ownership and incident response, with traceable production changes
What they ask for
- 8+ years of software engineering delivering large-scale distributed systems
- Backend and API experience with gRPC, MCP or GraphQL, and microservices
- Cloud-native experience: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, Kafka or MQ, caching, SQL or NoSQL
- Experience building secure, compliant internal tools with audit logging and data governance
- Experience with agentic AI systems such as MCP servers, RAG pipelines or evaluation frameworks
- Proficiency in Go and willingness to work in Python
- Attend quarterly in-person working sessions
