The role
The company is hiring a Staff Software Engineer on the Compute Platform team to own the routing layer that sends traffic to services running on Kubernetes, built on Istio, Envoy and other CNCF tools. The company is remote-first, with quarterly in-person sessions.
What you will do
- Design, build and automate routing infrastructure that sends application traffic to Kubernetes backends at scale
- Build on Envoy reverse proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh and SPIFFE service authentication
- Improve latency, reliability and performance of routing across production
- Shape the paved-road developer experience for running applications, with emphasis on AI-driven tooling
- Work with Security, Reliability and Observability teams on cross-cutting platform requirements
What they ask for
- 8+ years in software engineering and infrastructure roles
- 5+ years with reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF and service mesh
- Proficiency in Go, Python or Java, shipping production infrastructure services
- Experience scaling backend infrastructure on AWS, with networking and container orchestration knowledge
- Deep CNCF familiarity (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio) and experience extending them in production
- Independently diagnoses complex distributed systems issues
- Applies AI tooling to infrastructure workflows, with human oversight
