The role
The company is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer and technical lead for its Content Visual AI work in the User and Content Foundations org, building reusable content understanding signals for Discovery, Search, Growth and Ads. US-based applicants only, with occasional in-office days.
What you will do
- Set technical direction and multi-quarter strategy for visual representation learning, multimodal content understanding and LLM-based personalization
- Lead initiatives from problem definition through experimentation, productionization and adoption
- Build reusable embeddings, representations and semantic signals using VLMs, LLMs, sequence modeling and self-supervised learning
- Work with Product, Data Science, Applied Science and Engineering to turn capabilities into product outcomes
- Set practices for data pipelines, distributed training, inference and evaluation, and mentor engineers
What they ask for
- 7+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years tech leading teams
- MS or PhD in computer science or machine learning, or equivalent industry experience
- Publications at top ML conferences or open-source ML experience
- Hands-on large-scale distributed training of generative models (LLMs, VLMs, sequence models)
- Experience with distributed data tooling such as Spark, Hive or MapReduce
- Experience leading GenAI efforts for content understanding, search and recommendations
- Based in the USA, with in-person collaboration 1-2 times per quarter
