The role
The company is hiring a Senior Manager of Machine Learning Engineering in its Applied Science team to lead recommendation system research. The role is open to US-based applicants anywhere in the country, with in-person gatherings one or two times a quarter.
What you will do
- Own the technical roadmap for next-generation recommendation systems, including generative recommendation, large sequential models and reinforcement learning
- Manage and grow a team of applied scientists, ML engineers and technical leads, and recruit new people
- Balance near-term metric improvements with multi-quarter, high-risk research
- Move ML research into production systems that affect core company metrics
- Work with Consumer Engineering, Ads Engineering, Platform, Content and Data Science
What they ask for
- 7+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying ML to web-scale data
- 3+ years of direct people management
- Track record of high-impact initiatives across several product areas, backed by data
- Experience mentoring and up-leveling software and ML engineers
- Ability to turn ambiguous questions into projects with clear success metrics
- Publication record in ML, AI or data science
- MS or PhD in computer science, ML, NLP, statistics or a related field
- Based in the US
