The role
Appen, through its CrowdGen community, is looking for Amharic transcription specialists to transcribe audio recordings that help improve AI speech recognition. This is project-based independent contractor work that can be done remotely from anywhere, with fluency in the Ethiopian dialect required.
What you will do
- Transcribe audio recordings into text with high accuracy
- Capture speech as spoken, including pauses, filler words, repetitions and incomplete sentences
- Add timestamps that match the audio
- Identify and label different speakers
- Mark non-speech events such as laughter, background noise or unclear audio
What they ask for
- Excellent knowledge of Amharic spelling conventions
- Fluent in the Ethiopian dialect; location is open
- Good reading comprehension in English
- Prior experience with transcription and with audio data
- Strong attention to detail and ability to apply rules from examples
- Stable internet connection
- Access to a PC, laptop or iPad
