Remote customer service jobs in 2026: where they hire, skills and pay

What 66 open remote customer service jobs show: the Philippines is named most, 17 roles are entry level, none are open worldwide, and what pay to expect.

The Work Remote Job team

A city at night where support workers in headsets sit in lit windows, with arcs reaching toward a sunrise across the water.

Remote customer service is the field on our site most open to Latin America, and one of the two most open to the Philippines. On 17 October 2026, Work Remote Jobs listed 66 open customer service jobs from 33 employers. The Philippines was named in 22 of them, more than any other country, including the United States.

These numbers describe our own listings on 17 October 2026, a curated set, not the whole remote job market. Even so, the patterns are clear.

Key takeaways

  • The Philippines leads with 22 of 66 listings, followed by the US (15), Mexico (12), Colombia (10), Canada and South Africa (9 each) and Nicaragua (8).
  • None of the 66 jobs is open worldwide. Each one names the regions or countries it hires from, and 38 name exactly one country.
  • About a quarter (17 of 66) are entry level, the highest share of any field on our site. Where a listing states experience, 33 of 36 ask for one to three years.
  • English appears in 48% of listings and the help desk tool Zendesk in 30%.
  • Only 30% of listings print pay. In this sample, hourly rates for roles open to the Philippines run from 6 to 11 USD.

Where customer service jobs hire from

Customer service is unusual among our fields. Asia is an eligible region in 38% of customer service listings, against 8% in IT. Latin America is eligible in 30%, against 7% in IT. Counted by region, and a listing can name several, Asia appears in 25 listings, Latin America in 20, North America in 19, Africa in 10 and Europe in 4. 47 of the 66 jobs are not open to North America at all.

The chart below shows the countries named most often.

We can only guess at the reasons, and this is our interpretation. First, many support teams need to cover US business hours, and Latin America shares those hours. Second, the Philippines has a long history of English-language support work, so employers already know how to hire and pay there.

What the chart does not show is just as important: no customer service job on our site is open to anyone, anywhere. Across all 929 open jobs, about 10% are open worldwide. In customer service, the figure is zero. Our reading is that support work often involves customer data, local employment rules and fixed shifts, so employers choose their countries carefully.

That makes the first step simple. Before you read a listing closely, check that your country is named or falls inside an eligible region. If you live in the Philippines, start with customer service jobs open to the Philippines. In Latin America, check the country pages, such as jobs open to Mexico. What the work actually is

"Customer service" covers several different jobs. The chart below shows how the 66 listings divide.

Chat and email support (19 listings) means answering written questions in a help desk queue. Clear, friendly writing matters more than speed of speech.

Phone support (19 listings) means live calls with customers. It has the most entry-level roles: 7 of the 19.

Technical support (16 listings) means helping customers with software problems, such as login errors or settings. 11 of these 16 listings ask for SQL, JavaScript or APIs. Even so, 5 of the 16 are entry level.

The rest are general customer support (6), support team leads and managers (5) and one trust and safety role.

What the listings ask for

Here are the skills named most often in the 66 listings.

English leads at 48%, named in 32 listings. Many other listings are written in English without naming it, so check each listing's language needs, and look for roles that want a second language you speak.

Zendesk, a help desk tool, appears in 30% of listings, and a general CRM in 20%. Shopify appears in 15%, because many support roles serve online shops. Freshdesk, a similar help desk tool, appears in 9%.

The good news for beginners: you can practise these tools on your own. Many help desks offer free trials, where you can create tickets, use macros (saved replies) and apply tags. Then describe on your CV what you can actually do, and name the tool.

The technical skills, SQL (11%), JavaScript (9%) and APIs (9%), appear only in technical support listings. None of the chat, email or phone support listings ask for them. For a broader view of what employers want in every field, see the skills remote employers ask for.

How much experience you need

Of the 66 jobs, 17 are entry level (26%), 37 are mid level (56%), 7 are senior and 5 are leads. No other field on our site has a higher entry-level share: data annotation is next at 21%, and IT is at 1%.

The experience asked for is modest too. 36 listings state a number of years. Of those, 7 ask for one year, 11 ask for two and 15 ask for three. Only three ask for more than three years.

In our reading, customer-facing work that was not remote can still count toward these years, unless a listing asks for a specific industry or tool. Retail, a call center, a hotel front desk or a sales counter all count, if you describe them in terms of customers helped, problems solved and tools used.

What it pays

Pay is harder to see in this field than in some others. Only 30% of customer service listings print a pay figure, close to IT at 29% and well below data entry at 77%. Where pay is shown, it uses many currencies, so a single median would mislead.

Here are the pay figures, grouped by currency and period (two more listings pay in EUR and PHP):

  • Hourly in USD (4 listings): three roles open to the Philippines, two of them also open to parts of Latin America, pay 6 to 7, 7 to 9 and 8 to 11 USD per hour. One entry role open only to US residents pays 14 to 15 USD.
  • Monthly in USD (3 listings): two entry roles in Central and South America pay 400 to 600 and about 700 to 1,040 USD per month. A mid-level role open to the Philippines pays 1,900 to 2,400 USD.
  • Monthly in AUD (3 listings, all open to the Philippines): 1,200 to 2,000 AUD per month.
  • Monthly in ZAR (4 listings in South Africa): 23,000 to 32,000 ZAR per month.
  • Yearly in USD (4 listings, open to the US, or the US and Canada): 65,000 to about 133,000 USD, from two mid-level roles and two team lead roles.

These examples differ in location, level and pay period, so they do not add up to one typical salary. They do show that roles open to the Philippines and Latin America pay far less than roles open only to North America. The US yearly figures come from only four roles, two of them team leads, and should not be read as typical. For pay across all fields, see our remote salaries page and the article on what remote jobs pay.

Working hours

Only 18 of the 66 listings name a time zone, so treat this as a hint. Of those 18, eight follow US Eastern time, four follow other US time zones, four follow South African time, and two follow time zones in Asia and the Pacific.

If you live in Asia and a role must overlap with US business hours, that can mean evening or overnight work. Ask about shift times, weekend rotation and holiday cover before you accept. A role that names its hours is easier to plan around than one that says "flexible".

What to do next

  1. Check your country first. Use the customer service jobs page and filter by where you live.
  2. Pick a specialty: chat and email, phone or technical support.
  3. Learn one help desk tool well enough to talk about tickets, macros and service levels.
  4. Rewrite past customer-facing work as results: how many customers a day, which problems, which tools.
  5. Ask every employer about shift hours and whether you would be an employee or a contractor.
  6. Never pay a fee to get a support job. Read how remote job scams work.
