Search for "remote data entry jobs" and you will find two kinds of results. Some are real jobs: admin work for a clinic, an online shop or a busy founder, paid by the hour or the month. Others promise easy money for typing from home and end with a request for a fee. This article is about the first kind, and how to tell it from the second.
On 24 October 2026, Work Remote Jobs listed 929 open remote jobs. Thirty of them are in data entry and admin, from nine employers.
These numbers describe our own listings on that day, a curated set that we review by hand, not the whole job market.
Key takeaways
- Only 3 of the 30 jobs are pure data entry. The rest are executive assistants (8), medical administration (8), virtual assistants (6) and operations support (5).
- None of the 30 is open worldwide. Each one names the countries or regions it hires from: the Philippines (14), South Africa (10) and Latin America (6) lead.
- 77% of data entry and admin jobs print pay, the highest share of any field on our site.
- Medical virtual assistant roles usually pay 5 to 6 USD an hour. Monthly US-dollar roles range from 696 USD for junior assistants in Latin America to 3,000 USD for a senior executive assistant.
- Calendar management (14 jobs) and Google Workspace (12) are asked for almost as often as English (17). Typing is named in only 3.
Real data entry jobs are admin jobs
The phrase "data entry" suggests someone copying numbers from one place to another all day. On our site, that job barely exists. Only 3 of the 30 listings are mainly data entry. The others are admin roles where entering and updating data is one task among several.
Data entry and admin jobs, by kind of role
Executive assistants (8) manage a manager's inbox, calendar and travel. Some listings name tools such as Notion, Asana and Slack, and one asks for experience with AI tools.
Medical administration (8) is admin work for clinics: insurance checks, prior authorizations, lab results, referrals and patient scheduling. These roles ask for EHR systems (electronic health records) and insurance verification, and some want Spanish as well as English.
Virtual assistants (6) do a mix of inbox, calendar, documents and customer messages for small businesses.
Operations support (5) covers back-office work: keeping records up to date, processing orders and running a shop's back end.
Most of these roles also involve judgment: checking a record, chasing a missing document, talking to the patient or client.
Where they hire from
None of the 30 jobs is open worldwide. Every listing names the countries or regions it hires from, and the list is short.
Countries named in data entry and admin jobs
The Philippines (14) is named most often. Most of these roles are medical virtual assistants and executive assistants paid in US or Australian dollars. Browse data entry jobs open to the Philippines, or read our guide to remote jobs in the Philippines.
South Africa (10) comes next. These are admin, assistant and data entry roles; the seven that print pay all pay in rand. See data entry jobs open to South Africa.
Latin America (6). Colombia is named in 6 jobs; Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina, El Salvador and Venezuela in 3 each. Two of these are bilingual medical roles. See data entry jobs in Latin America.
One senior virtual assistant role names the United Kingdom. No listing in this field names India, Europe outside the UK, or anywhere in Africa other than South Africa on 24 October.
What they pay
No field on our site prints pay more often. 23 of the 30 listings (77%) print a salary range. Every other field is lower, from 67% (data annotation) to 29% (IT).
Share of open jobs that print pay, by field
The pay itself comes in five currencies, so we group it rather than give one number.
- Hourly in US dollars (7 listings). Five medical and mental health virtual assistant roles pay 5 to 6 USD an hour. A dental practice admin role and a bilingual medical role pay 6 to 7 USD. At 40 hours a week, 5 to 6 USD an hour comes to about 870 to 1,040 USD a month.
- Monthly in US dollars (4). Two junior assistant roles in Latin America pay 696 to 1,044 USD. An executive assistant role in the Philippines pays 1,500 to 1,800 USD, and a senior executive assistant to a CEO, hiring in Latin America, pays 2,500 to 3,000 USD.
- Monthly in Australian dollars (4, all in the Philippines): from 1,300 to 1,800 AUD for an admin assistant up to 2,000 to 2,500 AUD for a chief of staff role.
- Monthly in South African rand (7). Five admin and assistant roles pay 23,000 to 25,000 ZAR. A senior executive admin role and an entry-level data entry specialist role pay 29,000 to 32,000 ZAR.
- Monthly in Philippine pesos (1). An entry-level outbound call role pays 21,000 PHP.
Before you compare offers, put them in the same unit: your own currency, per month, for the hours you would really work. Check also whether you would be an employee or a contractor. Seven of the 30 listings mention contractor work, and contractors usually pay their own taxes and get no paid leave. For pay in every field, see our remote salaries page and what remote jobs pay.
What they ask for
English is named in 17 of the 30 listings, calendar management in 14 and Google Workspace in 12. Inbox management (7), CRM (6), and Spanish, Notion, Asana and Microsoft 365 (5 each) follow. Typing appears in only 3.
The pattern is clear. Employers want someone who can run a calendar and an inbox in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, keep records in a CRM or a spreadsheet, and write clear English. Typing speed alone is rarely the point. To stand out, learn one project tool (Notion or Asana) well, and show that you can keep a messy calendar under control.
For medical roles, prior authorization, insurance verification and EHR systems each appear in 3 listings. If you have worked in a clinic, a pharmacy or a hospital office, say so on your CV.
How much experience you need
Most of these jobs are mid level: 21 of 30. Five are senior and four are entry level.
The four entry-level roles are an outbound market research call role in the Philippines, two junior assistant roles in Latin America and a data entry specialist role in South Africa.
Twelve listings state a number of years. Eight of those ask for three years or less: three ask for one year, two for two years and three for three years. Only one asks for more than five.
Experience does not have to be remote. Office admin, reception, retail management, a call center or a clinic front desk all count. Describe it as results: appointments booked, records kept, problems solved, tools used. Our article on standing out in a remote application shows how.
Working hours
Sixteen of the 30 jobs name a time zone. Seven follow South African time, all from 11:00 to 19:00. Seven follow US Eastern time, and two follow US Central or Mountain time.
US hours are the hard part outside the Americas. A 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift in New York runs from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Manila until 1 November 2026, and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. after the US clocks change.
How to tell a real data entry job from a scam
We review every job on our site before it goes live. Elsewhere, "data entry" is a common cover for job scams. Real listings in this field have some things in common:
- They name a role with real tasks (calendar, records, insurance checks), not just "typing from home".
- They name where they hire from and, often, the hours.
- They print a pay range that fits the work. None of the 23 that print pay offers more than 3,000 USD a month, and that is for a senior executive assistant.
- They never ask you to pay for training, software or a "starter kit", and they do not move you to a chat app before an interview.
If an offer promises high pay for simple typing, with no interview, treat it as a scam until proven otherwise. Read how remote job scams work before you send any personal documents.
What to do next
- Browse all remote data entry and admin jobs, then filter by your country.
- Pick a direction: executive assistant, medical admin or virtual assistant. Each asks for different tools.
- Learn Google Workspace and one CRM or project tool well enough to describe what you did with it.
- Put every offer in your own currency, per month, before you decide.
- If your country is not listed, look at customer service jobs and data annotation jobs, which have more entry-level roles; some annotation work is open worldwide, as our guide to AI training jobs explains.
