The role
GitLab is hiring an Engineering Manager to build and lead the backend team for the Software Supply Chain Security Add-On, covering dependency firewall, build provenance, malicious package detection and artifact signing. A founding management role on a distributed, asynchronous team.
What you will do
- Lead the backend team building the Supply Chain Security Add-On
- Drive delivery for general availability milestones with the Staff Backend Engineer and Product Manager
- Hire engineers with Talent Acquisition
- Run 1:1s, performance reviews and career development
- Track cycle time, defect rates and test coverage
- Coordinate quarterly planning and plan headcount with Finance
What they ask for
- More than 3 years managing backend product engineering teams in security, DevOps or platform engineering
- Ability to hire and grow engineers in distributed teams
- Enough technical depth for architecture talks on package registries, CI/CD pipeline security and signing
- Experience delivering multi-quarter roadmaps across teams
- Comfort with asynchronous, documentation-driven work
- Familiarity with supply chain security, SLSA and Sigstore
