The role
The company is hiring an Intermediate Backend Engineer in the AMER region to build and ship backend features within a product area. You work remotely and asynchronously with product, frontend, infrastructure and security teams.
What you will do
- Design, implement, test and ship backend features with minimal guidance, in Ruby on Rails, Go or another modern language
- Build and maintain APIs, background jobs, integrations and data models, including migrations and indexes
- Add automated tests and review colleagues' code for correctness, security and performance
- Investigate build, test, deployment and runtime failures and propose fixes for technical debt
- Take part in on-call or operational support where the team's ownership model requires it
- Use AI tools in daily work and check what they produce
What they ask for
- Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, Go or another modern backend language
- Strong grounding in APIs, databases, testing, debugging and performance
- Ability to take a feature from clarification through delivery and follow-up
- Strong written communication in a remote, asynchronous setting
- Practical experience with AI coding tools, including correcting their output
