The role
The company is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer (Go) for the Gitaly team, which builds the Git data storage tier serving the company.com, self-managed and Dedicated. The role is remote and works asynchronously.
What you will do
- Own technical initiatives from proposal through implementation, rollout and monitoring
- Lead design work on distributed storage, Git repository management, performance and scalability
- Work with Git, Infrastructure, SRE, Dedicated and customer-facing teams
- Mentor engineers through documentation, design reviews and code reviews
- Handle incident response, capacity analysis and customer escalations
- Take regular on-call duties and respond to platform alerts
What they ask for
- Significant experience building and optimizing distributed or highly available systems in production
- Professional experience with Go or another backend or systems language
- Strong systems design skills covering performance, failure modes, consistency and concurrency
- Experience operating production systems and handling incidents
- Experience owning complex projects end to end
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ruby, Git internals or gRPC experience is desirable
