The role
The company is hiring a Backend Engineer for the Source Code Experience team in its Create stage. You will use Ruby and GraphQL to improve source code workflows on the company.com, self-managed and the company Dedicated, including support for people and AI agents working together.
What you will do
- Build secure, tested and performant features in Ruby and GraphQL
- Design and maintain backend services, APIs, data models and business logic for source code workflows
- Work around legacy constraints while protecting the reliability of a core product area
- Tune performance through query optimization, caching and rate limiting, and improve observability
- Join Tier 2 on-call, troubleshoot incidents and contribute to root cause analysis
- Use AI agents for well-scoped tasks and review their output critically; share knowledge through code review and docs
What they ask for
- Professional experience building backend web applications, services or APIs with Ruby and GraphQL
- Understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, caching and background processing
- Experience writing backend unit and integration tests and using Git and code review
- Experience with AI coding agents, or interest in learning to use them in a large monorepo
- Clear written and spoken English for asynchronous remote work
- Ability to manage priorities and work through ambiguity
