The role
The company is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its Nonlinear Productivity team, a new incubation group that builds reliable AI-powered automation to remove friction in the software development lifecycle. This listing is for the US group; the role is remote-global.
What you will do
- Find friction in the company's development lifecycle and scope agentic solutions for it
- Build AI-powered systems that follow step-by-step workflows, use tools and safety checks, and correct errors
- Build evaluation tools that judge agent output on correctness, constraint compliance and cost
- Work across the company's codebase wherever the problem requires
- Spot generated code that may fail under concurrency or at scale across deployment types
- Share roadmaps and agent tooling with the India-based group
What they ask for
- Hands-on experience building agentic or LLM-based systems with multi-step orchestration, tool use and guardrails, running reliably in production
- Record of working independently in unfamiliar codebases and seeing solutions through
- Strong distributed systems knowledge: consistency, idempotency, rate limiting and failure modes
- Proficiency in Go, Rust or Python, and ability to read the others
- Comfort owning a greenfield problem space with no dedicated product manager
