The role
The company is hiring a Backend Engineer (Ruby) for the Agent Foundations stage in AI Engineering. The team builds the Duo Agent Platform that lets AI agents work across software delivery. Remote, working async across EMEA and AMER time zones.
What you will do
- Build and maintain Duo Agent Platform features in the Ruby monolith and, where needed, the Python AI Gateway
- Work with Product, UX, frontend, backend and AI specialists to ship in small iterations
- Design and review GraphQL and REST APIs and the backend logic behind them
- Extend automated testing with RSpec and other frameworks
- Join Tier 2 on-call rotations, contribute to root cause analysis and improve observability
- Share standards and patterns for responsible AI integration
What they ask for
- Experience building and maintaining production Ruby on Rails applications, including background jobs, APIs and data models
- Experience designing REST or GraphQL APIs with scalability and backward compatibility in mind
- Proven SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
- Experience finding and fixing performance bottlenecks
- Hands-on use of AI tools in daily work
- Clear written and verbal communication in a remote, async team
- Plus: Python backend or Vue frontend familiarity
