The role
The company, a neighborhood network, is hiring a Senior Data Scientist for its Search team. The role covers query understanding, retrieval and ranking, and mixes analysis with prototyping alongside engineering. Hybrid work applies near its offices.
What you will do
- Design and develop algorithms and models to improve search relevance, retrieval and ranking
- Design experiments and track them from early feature development through post-release follow-up
- Share strategic insights from data and measure the impact of ranking and content changes
- Build metrics and dashboards for search performance across query understanding, retrieval, ranking and engagement
- Work with product, design, engineering, marketing and operations teams
- Prototype and ship solutions alongside engineering
What they ask for
- 5+ years of data science experience
- Direct experience on search, recommendations or information retrieval products, including relevance evaluation metrics
- Working knowledge of ML models and judgment on applying them and choosing evaluation metrics
- Strong experimentation skills, including complex A/B tests, interaction effects and long-term metrics
- Expert SQL and Python, including numpy, pandas and scikit-learn
- Ability to explain complex problems to executives and other audiences
- Daily use of AI tools in the workflow
