The role
Reddit is hiring a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead its user understanding work, building a unified representation of each user that powers personalization across Feeds, Search, Notifications and Ads. The role applies LLMs and foundation models to user modeling.
What you will do
- Define a unified user understanding framework covering embeddings, tags, attributes and LLM-based profiles
- Lead design of large-scale user representation models shared across Reddit products
- Use LLMs to build richer user understanding such as dynamic profiles and intent inference
- Work with platform teams on embedding storage, feature pipelines, APIs and low-latency serving
- Partner with Feeds, Notification, Search and Ads teams on experiments and adoption
- Mentor senior and staff engineers and lead design reviews
What they ask for
- 10+ years building production ML systems in user modeling, representation learning or recommender systems
- Track record taking ambiguous initiatives from concept to production
- Strong grounding in representation learning, behavioral modeling and user clustering
- Experience or strong intuition applying LLMs or foundation models to existing systems
- Systems thinking across data, training, evaluation, serving and adoption
- Ability to influence product, infrastructure and ML teams
- Comfort balancing quality, latency, cost and safety
