The role
Thumbtack, a home services marketplace, is hiring an Applied Scientist for its Pro Growth team. The role builds models and experiments for acquiring and activating service professionals, from supply forecasting to LLM-powered onboarding agents.
What you will do
- Drive applied science projects focused on pro acquisition, activation, retention and supply health
- Build and deploy ML models for lead scoring, supply forecasting, onboarding, churn prediction and agentic onboarding
- Design and run marketplace experiments to measure impact on supply and business metrics
- Analyse structured and unstructured data such as marketplace interactions and pro profiles
- Work with engineering, product, business development and marketing to run models in production
- Help build the team's LLM-powered tooling and eval coverage
What they ask for
- Master's degree in a quantitative field or equivalent industry experience
- 3+ years as an applied scientist, data scientist or ML engineer owning production models
- Applied science experience in a marketplace, supply chain or growth domain
- Knowledge of classification, regression, embeddings and causal inference
- Familiarity with LLMs and agentic AI development
- Solid grounding in statistics, experimental design and optimization
- Large-scale distributed systems experience such as Spark or Databricks
- Python and SQL
