The role
Canonical is hiring engineering managers for its data platform team, which builds multi-cloud and on-premise database and big data solutions. Roles lead teams on Big Data and MySQL. Open to candidates in European, Middle East, African or American time zones.
What you will do
- Lead a team building data solutions that run on Kubernetes and cloud machines
- Hire, coach and mentor engineers, and lead by example
- Contribute code directly when needed
- Set expectations with other engineering teams, senior management and external stakeholders
- Promote agile practices and a culture of quality
- Work as part of the wider leadership team
What they ask for
- Software engineering background, preferably with Python and Go
- Experience running production systems at scale, preferably Big Data or MySQL
- Track record of building high-quality open source software
- Proven ability to develop and grow people
- Based in a European, Middle East, African or American time zone
- Able to travel globally twice a year for one- to two-week events
- Nice to have: Spark, Superset or MySQL specialist knowledge
