The role
Canonical's general track for engineering directors who run projects spanning several teams and time zones. Directors hire and manage engineering managers and staff engineers while remaining strong developers. Remote, with positions in all time zones.
What you will do
- Lead multiple teams of engineers from graduate to senior level
- Develop engineering managers and uphold company culture
- Hire staff-level engineers for roles such as performance and quality
- Measure team health, productivity and progress against benchmark goals
- Represent the product to stakeholders, partners and customers
- Collaborate with leads of related or dependent products
What they ask for
- Extensive management experience
- Strong Linux-based software engineering track record
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring software developers
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Solid experience in an agile environment
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or another STEM subject, or a strong case for an alternative path
- Excellent verbal and written English
- Able to travel twice a year for company events of up to two weeks
